Professor Werner Weitschies Receives the 2026 Pearls of Bioequivalence and Biopharmaceutics Award for Groundbreaking Esophageal Drug Delivery Innovation

Professor Werner WeitschiesEsoCap is proud to congratulate Professor Werner Weitschies of the Institute of Pharmacy, Center of Drug Absorption and Transport – Biopharmaceutics and Pharmaceutical Technology at the University of Greifswald, on receiving the prestigious 2026 Pearls of Bioequivalence and Biopharmaceutics Award.

The award is jointly presented by the Frankfurt Foundation Quality of Medicines (FFQM) and the European Federation for Pharmaceutical Sciences (EUFEPS) and recognizes outstanding achievements that advance pharmaceutical science and patient care.

Professor Weitschies was honored for his project, “From Innovation to Impact: The First Drug Delivery System for Local Treatment of the Esophagus.” The project represents a pioneering advancement in targeted esophageal therapy and has significantly contributed to improving treatment options for patients with esophageal diseases.

The award ceremony took place on 29 May 2026 during the JOINT EUFEPS–SITELF Meeting, Naples 2026: “Advances in Pharmaceutical Sciences.” The award was presented by Professor Henning Blume, Chairman of the Frankfurt Foundation Quality of Medicines, together with Professor Giuseppe De Rosa, President of EUFEPS.
