Prof. Dr. Werner Weitschies
Founder and Chief Scientific Advisor
Werner Weitschies studied pharmacy at the Free University of Berlin from 1983 to 1987. He received his “Approbation” in 1988 and his Ph.D. (Dr. rer. nat.) in Pharmaceutical Technology in 1990 at the Free University of Berlin. From 1990 to 1995 he worked in the research laboratories of Schering AG in Berlin in the field of contrast agents. From 1996 to 1998 he was project manager of a research project in the field of medical applications of single domain magnetic nanoparticles at the Institute for Diagnostic Research of the Free University of Berlin.
In December 1998, he was nominated as Professor of Pharmaceutical Technology (C3) at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-University of Greifswald, Germany. In 2003 he was nominated as Professor of Biopharmaceutics (C4) at the Ernst-Moritz-Arndt-University of Greifswald, Germany.
His main research areas are the investigation of the behavior of drugs and dosage forms in the gastrointestinal tract, the development of bior-elevant in vitro dissolution test systems, new formulation concepts for oral drug delivery and the investigation of novel nanoparticle based techniques for molecular imaging and physical therapy. Werner Weitschies published more than 200 peer reviewed articles and 30 patents.
